The Women in our Community Share What They’re Celebrating in Life

By: Stephanie Jade Wong

Today, I'm celebrating

We often celebrate big events like birthdays, promotions, and weddings, but what about our daily encounters? What about the little things in life? We’ll typically remember the big events, but it’s important to celebrate smaller, and more personal wins. We asked our community what they're celebrating , and wanted to give you a glimpse.

AM: What are you celebrating in life?

MN: How far I've come through all my personal struggles, and how much I'm ready to take on as part of my life goals. I've welcomed so many amazing people and opportunities that have continued to invigorate me with the kind of positive energy that makes me appreciate the life I lead.

AM: What do you do and what do you love about it?

SN: I founded alice black media (abm) on Jan 1 this year. It's an NYC-based social marketing agency for my freelance clients while I plan my exit out of the corporate world.

For almost a decade, I’ve gained social marketing experience working at ad agencies as the social media director on big brands like Party City, Michaels Arts & Crafts, and Verizon, all while teaching social media to online master’s students at the University of Florida.

I'm passionate about abm becoming a social media marketing partner to businesses with badass female entrepreneurs and leaders who are self-taught, relentless, and thoughtful.

I love working with women and brands I wholeheartedly believe in. I love helping the women in business I partner with max out their social media opportunities.

AM: What are you celebrating in life?

SN: My 2019 word is courage. I'm celebrating being courageous. I took a big leap by starting my own company. I'm breaking out of my comfort zone for the betterment of my business. I recognized Lisa Nicole Rosado at The Wing weeks ago and mustered up the courage to introduce myself. We exchanged cards and she told me to join the We Are Women Owned Sisterhood Facebook Group.

Being confident and proud of who I am, my success, my losses, the entire journey. And being confident in what I believe in, what I don’t believe in, and being unafraid and unapologetic about expressing that.

AM: What do you do and what do you love about it?

KW: I’m a professional florist. As a small business owner, things can get tough, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. I love getting to create art and magic for my couples. Nothing brings me more joy than the look on their faces when they see their dream weddings come to life in front of them! There’s also something so calming about working with nature every day. I get to use my hands to guide the leaves and petals, and leave my studio every day feeling satisfied (and smelling amazing!). It’s so great!

AM: What are you celebrating in life?

KW: I’m celebrating love, every day. It’s the best! Not only do I get to help couples celebrate their romantic love, but I get to help them show love to their friends and family.

I had a moment last season when I delivered a bridal bouquet that I’ll never forget. The bride and her mom were getting ready together, and when I delivered the bouquet, they both started crying and hugging. They were thanking and hugging me, and I started crying, too! There are so many relationships and emotions on a wedding day. I always feel so honored to share those memories.

I also am blessed to celebrate love daily with my own circle. I work with dozens of strong, amazing women on every shoot or wedding I create, and I’m so joyful to get to see them growing and becoming confident in their own art forms. But my biggest celebration is that I get to do life every day with my best friend. My wife and I run Blooms and Twine Floral Design, and building it together has grown our relationship so much.

AM: What do you do and what do you love about it?

ST: I’m an IRL connection enthusiast, event producer, moderator & writer. I love that I get to spend my time connecting with and having my curiosity about people realized.

AM: What are you celebrating in life?

ST: I’m celebrating the launch of my signature workshop "Networking for Introverts." It all started when my friend Brenda, founder of SF Girl Bosses, asked if I would want to give a talk. I had always moderated panels, but never been a featured speaker. I realized my transformation from painfully shy introvert to community leader in SF was something that could inspire. I wrote down what I learned from years of trial and error in becoming the most confident and connected version of myself. Now it's out in the world and the response has been great. I run into women who have taken the workshop and tell me they are using the tips and feeling more confident. I love how it's kicking off.

AM: What do you do and what do you love about it?

AT: I’m a full-time freelance writer and editor, and a fashion and beauty blogger. I love that I get to do so many different things, whether it's editing writers’ submissions, writing stories for sites like Fashionista and The Zoe Report, or shooting a campaign for a brand.

AM: What are you celebrating in life?

AT: I’m celebrating embracing change. In the last two years I was laid off from two different magazine editor jobs. I thought I was supposed to climb the ladder at a magazine, but have realized that there are so many other things that I could do as well. This time as a freelancer has given me the opportunity to explore things that I never would have otherwise, like brand copywriting and creating content for brands that I have always wanted to work with.
