International Women’s Day
(IWD) is all all about equality. Let’s face it, we don’t live in a gender-balanced world, but we should. This year’s campaign theme is #BalanceForBetter. Creating a more gender-balanced world starts with people working together to initiate change.

Here are 10 ways to celebrate International Women’s Day.

1. Attend an event

You can search for an official IWD event here on their website, or participate in any gatherings near you.

2. Promote gender equality in the workplace

Activist Malala Yousafzai once said, “We cannot succeed when half of us are held back." Women deserve to equal pay and rights in the workplace, across all job types.

3. Read books written by female authors

There are so many feminist authors out there who’ve got literature to educate you for days. A few of our faves include, Gloria Steinem, Roxane Gay, and Rebecca Solnit.

4. Join a female community

Whether it’s online or in-person, a networking group or book club, a community of strong females can give you a bigger sense of connection. Join our community, Womxn's Collective

5. Tell women what they mean to you

It can be a in person, through text, or even a handwritten card via snail mail. It’s never too late to acknowledge and thank those female figures in your life.

6. Volunteer at a women’s shelter or organization

Take an hour (or more!) out of your day to spend some time at a local shelter or organization that supports women.

7. Donate to young girls

If time isn’t on your side, you can donate to organizations (like She’s the First) that benefit young girls.

8. Educate people about IWD

IWD may not be as well-known as other international days or holidays, so use your resources to educate others about the importance of this day. You can use social media as your platform to initiate change. For example, people are striking the #BalanceForBetter pose (arms out to your sides like a balanced scale) for photos and using the hashtag #IWD2019 to share their thoughts.

9. Gather your girls to celebrate

Grab your girl gang and celebrate being females, all that you have now, and all that you can achieve for the future of women.

10. Support women-owned businesses

Shop from businesses that are women-owned, and tell all your friends about them to show your support. Having trouble finding some? No worries, check out this directory.

We’re all about celebrating women every day even though IWD only happens once a year. It’s not difficult to support women. Together we can make history herstory.
