Styled By Issue No. 1 - Emily O'Connell

A new series featuring our favorite collaborators talking style inspiration and Alexis Mera.
We're so excited to share our new Styled By Blog Series with you! Each issue will feature photos of one lovely lady, and her take on how to style Alexis Mera. We hope this series will provide you with tips and tricks for styling various pieces from our collection. We want to keep it real, each woman does her own hair and makeup, we are not retouching photos, and we are providing zero styling guidance.
Our very first Styled By shoot was with Emily O'Connell, you may remember her from her Inspired By Interview. Scroll through to see how Emily styled our Rio Palm Print Joggers.

AM: Tell us a little bit about yourself and your typical day in NYC?
EO: I grew up outside of Seattle as a dancer. I trained across the board in ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop etc. I moved to New York to study at Fordham and pursue my professional dance career. I did a lot of performing during and in the years after college. I never planned a transition to fitness, but it has ended up being a really great fit for me.

My typical day starts VERY early. I usually teach at 6am, so the alarm goes off at 4:40am. I have my coffee, get ready and arrive at the studio by 5:30. I’m done with the classes I teach by mid-morning and I’ll do my own workout after that, usually a FlyWheel or FlyBarre class and sometimes both! Then it’s time for lunch and errands, which always includes grocery shopping. I love to cook and arrive home in the late afternoon to start on dinner for my husband and me. Once he gets home we eat and relax. It’s always early to bed for me, because, well, that 4:40am alarm...

AM: Tell us about this outfit! Which pieces did you pair your AM gear with, and why?

EO: I love the color in these joggers so I wanted to pair them with neutral pieces so they could be the focal point of the outfit. I love a crop top and this off-white one by Philosophy matches the relaxed vibe of the pants. My Banana Republic jean jacket adds some structure and the Steve Madden espadrilles keep everything comfy and summery. I finished it off with my Cole Haan mirrored sunnies for the final touch.

AM: Where would you wear this outfit?

EO: I see this outfit taking me from the city to a tropical destination. The jacket would keep me warm on this end and I can shed it on arrival for a beach-y vibe. The super soft fabric and drawstring waist would make these pants perfect for a long flight. I feel like I need to plan a trip!

AM: What do you love most about your new AM piece?

EO: We all love multi-functional pieces. While these comfy pants are great for lounging, they are also stylish enough to wear out. Sweatpants to brunch? Sign me up!

AM: How would you describe your style in two words?

EO: Feminine and modern.
