Every year December rolls around, and so do the holidays. With all the yummy food and festive celebrations, most of us are left feeling like we shouldn't have eaten that last piece of apple pie. No wonder gyms are packed the first few weeks of January. If you're like most people, your New Year's resolution probably sounds a little something like, "Lose 10 pounds.", "Don't eat bread for one month.", or "Do a two week detox.". What about New Year's resolutions that we can actually stick to? Here are a few small tips for a healthier lifestyle that will last through Valentine's Day and hopefully become part of your daily routine.

1. Drink water as soon as you wake up in the morning.
It is a long known secret that drinking water as soon as you get up, i.e. before eating anything, is a good way to purify your internal system. Make your skin glow, renew your cells, and lose weight too. Learn more about the benefits of drinking water in the morning here.
Two tricks that I have found to work for me when trying to drink more water through out the day are:
1. Sub one cup of coffee or tea with water.
2. Make a timer on your phone for every hour or hour and a half to get up and drink a glass of water.

2. Download 8fit fitness app, and use it 2 - 3 times per week.
I just found this awesome fitness app where you can create a work out plan, meal plan, track your progress and get one-on-one coaching, and it's free to download! I think it's so important to do physical exercise every day. Even if it's walking your dog, walking a few times around the block, or getting in a few crunches while watching your favorite sitcom. I recently read an article, Regular exercise changes the brain to improve memory, thinking skills. Not only are you keeping your body fit and healthy, but you're also exercising your mind. I totally believe in this! That's why I like to get my workouts done early in the morning, so my mind and body are energized for the day ahead.

3. Skip the Half & Half or milk and sub it with Almond Milk.
I used to use only half and half with my tea. I loved the creamy taste! Then my trainer gave me a two week challenge, which eliminated dairy from my diet completely. I started using Almond Milk with my tea (and my cereal), and it's really grown on me! The difference in calories really makes it worth it! Did you know that 1 cup of half and half has 315 calories? No thanks! I'd rather use those calories on food I can actually chew. Almond Milk has only 30 calories per 1 cup! My favorite brand is Silk Unsweetened Almond Milk. Not going to lie, it took a little getting used to, but now I prefer Almond Milk over half and half in my tea. It's lighter, and adds a nice flavor.
Most importantly, make living a healthy life part of your everyday routine, then it will be natural and you won't have to make anymore New Year's resolutions. ;)Tweet
