First off, the weather was beautiful. Don't get me wrong, it was HOT. But, it wasn't humid like New York. In New York we talk about the ever changing weather, and in Cali it's all about the traffic. We stayed in Ojai, with my beautiful cousin, her husband, and their newborn baby!
Ojai is super relaxing, mountains and valleys everywhere you drive, there are hiking trails, shops, and it was about a 20 minute drive to the nearest beach.
We took a drive to Santa Barbara to check out some of the shops and found a cute Brazilian restaurant.
This cheese cake, smothered in Guava Paste (or maybe it was syrup?) was SO good! It's a good thing Márcio and I shared it! It's not a tradition Brazilian dish, but I'll take it! My personal trainer would probably (no, most definitely) kill me for eating it. Whoops!
We also took a drive down the coast and passed through Malibu, Santa Monica, and Venice. The view at the coast was amazing. The lifestyle in California is so different than New York (naturally). But it was very cool to see surfers riding the waves at the Malibu coast. There were cars lined up along the highway, with people getting out to hit the beach.
We made it to the Abbot Kinney Festival in Venice. It was basically a big street fair with a variety of vendors. Food, clothing, drinks, events, etc...
We ate at Gjelina, a trendy Italian restaurant on Abbot Kinney Blvd. The pizza was delicious! Of course not as good as Lea, which is where we had our wedding this past June. But it was definitely good, and worth it. Sorry, no pics.
We also stopped at the Venice Canals. Not sure they're quite like Venice, Italy, but they were cute, and the surrounding homes were beautiful. I don't think I'd mind living on a canal. It was quiet, quaint, and seemed very safe. A quick boat ride to a friends house might be fun!
Venice Beach was pretty much what I expected, from what I have seen in movies and TV shows. I love the tall palm tree's and all the little shops on the boardwalk. Márcio and I both agreed that if we had to pick a place to live in California (from the places we had seen) we would both pick Venice Beach.
We were lucky we got to see so much in such a short time, we were only there for 4 nights, and we arrived super late on Thursday, so that day was pretty much a waste. Best of all, I had the opportunity to meet the newest addition to my family. My cute little cousin Breton!Tweet
